The round-bottom design provides a large surface area for sample mixing, reducing the potential for some reagents remaining stuck in corners or grooves of the deep well microplate. After centrifugation the denser components of mixed liquids are concentrated at the bottom of the plate wells and the v-bottom shape makes it easy to recover the concentrate using standard pipette tips.
